Harrogate Business Directory

Company Name

• Contains - The directory will search for businesses with the entered text anywhere in the company name e.g. 'bell' would locate Bell Limited, Annabelle's, Smith & Bell Associates etc.
• Is - The directory will only search for businesses with company name matching the entered text exactly e.g. to locate Bell Limited you have to enter 'Bell Limited'.
• Starts With - The directory will search for businesses with company name starting with the entered text e.g. 'bell' would locate Bell Limited, Belle View etc.

Business Type

The directory will search all business classifications, (Cluster, Sector, SIC and Thompson Classification) for businesses which contain the text description entered in all or part of the classification. E.g. 'Architect' would return results including architects, landscape architect etc. Searching for 'Man' would retrieve businesses involved in manufacturing but also those with classifications such as 'Other human health activities'.

Postcode

To use the postcode search you can enter all or part of a postcode, the directory will search the postcodes that contain the text entered, e.g. 'HG1' will return businesses within the HG1 district, 'HG1 4' will return businesses within the HG1 4 postal sector or to find businesses at a specific postcode type in 'HG1 4BT'.

Multiple Criteria

The Business Search function will combine the search criteria entered e.g. to locate a plumber in the HG1 4 postal sector simply type 'plumber' in the Business Type field and 'HG1 4' in the Postcode field.

Advanced Search Criteria

The advanced search option operates using drop down menus next to each criteria. The only 'free type' option is within the Company Location criteria 'whose address contains'. This operates in the same way as the postcode search in that the directory will retrieve all businesses whose address contains the text entered. e.g. 'Knaresborough' would locate businesses within Knaresborough, but also results in 'Knaresborough Road', Knaresborough Lane' etc. Entering 'Stockwell Lane' would only locate businesses on that particular road.

You can build up multiple criteria in the same way as the basic search. E.g. to search for a restaurant in Pateley Bridge with less than 10 employees; select 'Pateley Bridge' from the drop down menu next to 'located in the ward', then select 'Sector' from the first drop down menu within the Business Type criteria and 'Hotels & Restaurants' from the second, finally select 'Business Size' and '0-9 employees' from the Business Size criteria.
